A couple of books to look forward to

Michael Connelly and John Connolly are my two favourite authors and I read everything they publish so I’m really looking forward to the second half of 2012 when they both have new books out. In that vein, I have reproduced some information below from their personal websites about their forthcoming releases.

Michael Connelly – Harry Bosch – The Black Box

THE BLACK BOX will be released in hardcover, eBook, audiobook, and in large print in the USA and Canada on November 26, 2012. It will be released in the UK and Ireland on November 22, and in Australia and New Zealand on November 21.

In a case that spans 20 years, Harry Bosch links the bullet from a recent crime to a file from 1992, the killing of a young female photographer during the L.A. riots. Harry originally investigated the murder, but it was then handed off to the Riot Crimes Task Force and never solved. Now Bosch’s ballistics match indicates that her death was not random violence, but something more personal, and connected to a deeper intrigue.

Like an investigator combing through the wreckage after a plane crash, Bosch searches for the “black box,” the one piece of evidence that will pull the case together. Riveting and relentlessly paced, THE BLACK BOX leads Harry Bosch into one of his most fraught and perilous cases.

John Connolly – Charlie Parker – The Wrath of Angels & The Reflecting Eye

The 11th Charlie Parker novel is titled THE WRATH OF ANGELS. It’ll be out in late August/early September. In the meantime, John is touring in the USA as part of the Atria Mystery Bus Tour and if you’re lucky enough to have him visit your town/city you could help yourself to a brand new version of THE REFLECTING EYE.

This is a special signed edition of the Charlie Parker novella that featured in the NOCTURNES collection and which has never appeared in hardback. It features a new introduction and differs from the version in NOCTURNES in several elements. To begin with, THE REFLECTING EYE will only be available at the bookstores that the tour bus is visiting priced at $30 and can only be purchased by people who attend in person and is limited to two copies per person.

THE REFLECTING EYE finds Charlie Parker between the events of THE WHITE ROAD and THE BLACK ANGEL, living with his partner, Rachel, in relative tranquility as they await the birth of their child. THE REFLECTING EYE introduces the character of the Collector, a shadowy figure who has appeared in several subsequent books, and plays a central role in THE WRATH OF ANGELS.

Synopsis for THE WRATH OF ANGELS: In the depths of the Maine woods, the wreckage of a plane is discovered. There are no bodies, and no such plane has ever been reported missing, but men both good and evil have been seeking it for a long, long time.

What the wreckage conceals is more important than money. It is power: a list of names, a record of those who have struck a deal with the Devil. Now a battle is about to commence between those who want the list to remain secret, and those for whom it represents a crucial weapon in the struggle against the forces of darkness.

The race to secure the prize draws in private detective Charlie Parker, a man who knows more than most about the nature of the terrible evil that seeks to impose itself on the world, and who fears that his own name may be on the list. It lures others too: a beautiful, scarred woman with a taste for killing; a silent child who remembers his own death; and the serial killer known as the Collector, who sees in the list new lambs for his slaughter. But as the rival forces descend upon this northern state, the woods prepare to meet them, for the forest depths hide other secrets.

Someone has survived the crash.

SOMETHING has survived the crash.

And it is waiting . . .
