Mystery/Crime Novel of the Decade?

The Barry Award Nominations were announced this week, and they have a very interesting category:

Mystery/Crime Novel of the Decade:
The Guards by Ken Bruen
The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
Mystic River by Dennis Lehane
Still Life by Louise Penny
The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón

These are excellent choices.  The Lincoln Lawyer, Mystic River, and The Shadow of the Wind are books that any mystery fan would love, but I would also nominate:

A Place of Execution by Val McDermid (2000)
Right as Rain by George Pelecanos (2001)
Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith (2009)
Down River by John Hart (2007)

Since you already listed Child 44, I will go with my runner up for the year: The Ghost’s of Belfast by Stuart Neville. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait for his next one.

Good one! I loved The Ghost of Belfast too. I’m counting the days until August 5th when Collusion by Stuart Neville comes out.
